How to Get Rid of Centipedes Permanently

A few days ago, I saw a big red centipede in my bathroom, and I was shocked by just looking at its size. It was so big that it almost looked like a monster living in my bathroom.

I do not know where it came from, but fortunately, I repelled the centipede as it was impossible to kill it or come close to it.

The size of that centipede was over 12cm or a full-length scale that kids use to draw.

Now, you imagine how terrifying the experience was for my family. But do not worry, no matter how big or small it is.

These ideas will help you repel or kill them in a few hours without making a mess in the area. So here is how to get rid of centipedes in the house.

1. My Personal Centipede Repellent Idea

My Personal Centipede Repellent Idea

If the centerpiece is small, then you can kill it with a strong stick. But do not get close to it, as it may hurt you.

After you have killed it, clean the area well to avoid any further skin damage if you mistakenly put your foot on the remaining, as the remaining centipede can cause skin problems for you.

2. Kill them With with a Salt

Kill them With with a Salt

If you can not kill it with a stick, spread salt on it. I spread four packs of salt on it and covered the whole bathroom with the salt.

We did not use that bathroom for about five days until we made sure that the centipede was gone.

Yes, we tried to kill it, but it survived even with the salt. Salt has the power to burn their skin, and they will not roam around if you spread salt in your house and garden.

Now, go buy a few packets of cheap salt and spread it all over the place where those big bugs are roaming around. You will see they are gone in a few days.

3. Use Glue Traps

If you can not kill them using a stick or salt, use glue traps that people use to trap roaches or mice.

Buy a few of those traps and remove them from your house and yard. But be careful.

4. Use Boric Acid to Kill Them

Use Boric Acid to Kill Them

Boric acid is also a popular idea on how to get rid of centipedes. Spread it in the areas where they are right now, or you think they have made a nest.

The acid will burn their skin and repel them.

If you use too much acid, that will kill them if they are small in size. The bigger one may not die quickly. Yes, this acid is more effective than the salt idea.

The above ideas were how to kill centipedes. Now let’s learn how to repel them permanently without killing them.

5. Seal all the Entrance

Look for the entrance and seal them off. I have seen those centipedes come to my house through the bathroom drain. In your case, they may come from a different area.

Seal it off or use something that may block them, like bleaching powder or salt in that area. Also, clean the area and do not let it get wet all the time. The moisture attracts the centipedes.

6. Remove their Food Source

All those ideas are helpful, but if you do not remove their food source, then they will come after a few days. So to repel them from life, do not give them the food they like.

Remove all these instances from your house right now.

  • Spiders
  • Cockroaches
  • Moths
  • Crickets
  • Earthworms
  • Small centipedes

Yes, a bigger centipede eats smaller once. So use other pest control ideas to repel all kinds of insects and bugs so that those centipedes do not come to your house.

7. Use Pest Control Plants

I will not say pest control plants can repel centipedes in days, but they can repel them in weeks. This idea is slow and only applicable when you use all the above ideas.

Use it to never have a single piece of centipede in your house in the future. But you have to maintain the plants.

So that they remain fresh and spread the smell that those centipedes and other bugs hate.

Here are your plants.

  • Catnip
  • Peppermint
  • Lavender
  • Marigold
  • Lemongrass
  • Mosquito plant
  • Lemon balm

Plant them in your house in a pot or in the garden and see the result.

8. Hit them Hard

Get a stick and hit it hard to kill it. But keep a safe distance as it may bite you. Do not come near to it if it is big. Only hit those who are small in size. Okay!

9. Throw at Them Boling Tea

You will not believe but this happened to me. A few days weeks ago I saw a small centipede in my kitchen sink.

I was making tea at that time. I threw the hot burned tea leaves on it and instantly it died. Try it.

10. Trap it With a Bowl

If you see a small centipede, then instantly trap it with a bowl. So that it does not move elsewhere and go lost. Then kill it. Simple!

Last Words

First, try with the salt and the boric acid. Plant a few pest control plants to repel them for life. And do not freak out!
