So how to get rid of grasshoppers in the garden? I will give you my personal DIY ideas that are natural and can kill all those grasshoppers in a few days if you use them correctly.

But before you apply any of these ideas, I recommend you do not use any sort of chemicals in your garden area as it may dry them up, resulting in a huge loss.

First, try these natural ideas, and then if you see that they are not completely gone, then use some professional chemicals but carefully. So here we go.

How to Get Rid of Grasshoppers

Okay, now you need to know what attracts these grasshoppers in your garden and why. They come for food, a place to live, and especially to lay eggs.

They eat grass, plants, and the green leaves of your garden plants. They lay eggs in the weeds or any moist place and feed them those new leaves.

If you want to remove them, first, you have to remove those moist areas in the garden and then use these ideas.

So here is how to get rid of grasshoppers as soon as possible, no matter their population.

1. Attract Grasshopper Killers in Your Garden

frog

My first idea is to attract grasshopper killers in the garden. Killers like Mice, Lizards, and Frogs. Snakes can also eat them, but I do not suggest that, as they can bite.

Here is what you can do.

  • Set up a small pond in your garden to attract frogs.
  • Put your outside night light on all night. So that the insects and flies can circle around it and lizards and frogs can catch them.
  • Throw some food waste in your yard to attract mice.

Now you think, what else can attract that killer in your yard and how to use them?

Look, if the grasshopper population is huge, it will take months to kill them all, and you have to repel those insects and reptiles after all this. So consider that before using this idea.

2. Attracts Predator Birds in Your Yard

Attracting birds also comes under the killer point, but I want you to give importance to it separately.

Kill some Grasshoppers and throw them in the open field to attract bids that eat them.

Continue this for a week, and you will see they are catching and killing them automatically. You can also use bird seeds or a bird feeder to attract them. It is up to you.

3. Do Regular Weed Cleaning

Do Regular Weed Cleaning to repel grasshoppers

As I have told you earlier, those Grasshoppers lay eggs in the moist soil. Do not let them and make the soil dry by letting sunlight in.

Clear all the weeds, standing water, and plants that are covering the soil from sunlight in your garden. You can also use mulch to remove moisture in the garden.

4. Till the Ground to Control Grasshoppers

Till the Ground to Control Grasshoppers

You may have seen when farmers put seeds in the soil, they till the ground, or in simple words, they loosen the soil so that the seeds can grow faster and have less moisture in the soil.

Use the same formula in your garden. Just use a tool to loosen the soil, and you will see that those grasshoppers are not laying eggs there.

5. Use a Grasshopper Killer Bait

Use a Grasshopper killer Bait

There is a lot of bait in the market that is non-toxic to pets and humans. They come in powder shape, and you should apply them in an area where they gather around.

Again be careful with it and do not apply it too much to your plants. Use them at a safe distance.

If possible, use some new leaves with it so that they come for the leaf eat the powder, and die.

6. Use Essential Oil Spray to Kill Grasshoppers

Essential oils can also kill grasshoppers, especially Neem oil. Mix this oil with water and spray on them.

But again, be careful as this Neem oil can burn the plant skin if used in heavy quantities.

That is why add water so that the effect on the plant is less and on the grasshopper and their eggs is more. Try it.

7. Plant Garlic and Other Pest Control Plants

My last idea on how to get rid of grasshoppers is to plant a few pest control plants like garlic, marigold, mint, and other plants that can repel all those insects from your garden.

Here is the list.

  • Garlic
  • Sage
  • Marigold
  • Lavender
  • Rosemary
  • Basil
  • Juniper
  • Forsythia

Plant them and see the result.

8. Use Vinegar Spray

venigar

Vinegar can repel grasshoppers faster than ever. But it can kill all kinds of plants if it touches them. That is why mix it with water and then spray. So that the plants do not get burned.

9. Diatomaceous Earth Powder

powder

This power is a natural insect killer. If you spread it across your garden the grasshopper and all other bugs and insects will die as it will kill them internally.

10. Market Bought Pest Control Spray

The Diatomaceous Earth Powder is also a market-bought product but people use it as a DIY hack.

If you want a spray that has similar power to the Diatomaceous Earth then buy any garden pest killer and it will kill them. The spray will have essential oil and it will not harm any palns.

There are some more professional ideas that can kill grasshoppers in a quick time. But you must use them carefully as they can damage your plants in the garden.

That is why, hire a professional or use those above natural ideas to kill grasshoppers. I hope you got my point.

Other Ideas to Kill Grasshoppers

So this is how to get rid of grasshoppers in the garden in a few days. I prefer the predator’s ideas as it is beneficial to the environment and feeds those hungry birds and reptiles.

But you are free to use other pest ideas. I wish you the best of luck.
