Here is how to get rid of ticks in the house using a few natural DIY ideas that you can prepare at home.

As you know, Thicks need a host to live as they feed on blood. Just like the mosquitoes, ticks are also attracted to carbon dioxide and a warm place.

If they ever bite you, it can cause some serious skin issues. Itching is normal, but if you see something more, then discuss it with a doctor. But you must not freak out. Okay!

How They Bite You?

So how do they climb on your body? They climb on you when you roam around your yard.

They love on those tall grassy, busy, and worm wooden areas and sometimes on the skin of animals that feed on those grass.

They need blood, and they can only get it from either a bug, big insects that live on the grass, or from an animal. Then they find a better host like you, and hence the bite.

One more thing, these ticks are very close to chiggers as they look almost the same and live in the same area. But they are different species.

Okay, with that small basic understanding, let’s begin!

1. Spray Essential Oils

essential oils

Ticks do not like essential oils like lavender, eucalyptus, or lemongrass. If you spray the oil with water all over the yard, on the skin of your pets, and on you, then they will not attack you.

Plus the oil odor will repel them and force them to settle in a different area or die. So spray it all over the house, in the corner, on your clothes, and the pet bedding right now.

2. Trim those Tall Grasses

If you clean the yard and cut those tall grasses short, you are reducing the hiding spot and deleting their habitat which will dramatically reduce their population.

That is why once a week, you must do the lawn cleaning if you want to repel them for life.

3. Vacuum Your House Daily

Build a habit of vacuuming the carpets and the corners daily if you fear that ticks are living somewhere in the house. That will also prevent them from hatching their eggs.

There is no need to buy another powerful vacuum for this purpose. Just use the cleaner that you already have. It is a simple habit but not everyone is following it.

4. Kil them with Diatomaceous Earth Powder

You may know that Diatomaceous earth powder is an insect killer and it is a natural product that is made from fossilized algae which is not harmful to humans.

Sprinkle this powder where you fear that those ticks live or roam around, like cracks, crevices, and pet resting spots. They will eat the powder and die of dehydration.

But do not use the powder on pet bedding or on the carpet as it may harm your pets. You are safe from this powder, but not those pets. So use it carefully.

5. Get a Pet Coller with Essential Oil

You can install a pet collar with essentials in it that will discourage ticks from climbing on the pets. You can buy it online or build it at home. So take your pets to a safe zone with this.

Plus, if you groom your pets daily and clean them when they go out to play, then you will have almost no thicks in the house.

6. Soak Your Clothes in the Hot Sun

Ticks do not like extreme temperatures. So soak your clothes, bedding, and carpets in the hot sun for a whole day. Soak your pets also.

You can also wash those things with hot water to kill those ticks. Just do not overdo anything or the fabric will get damaged.

7. Get a few Tick-Repellent Plants

rosemarry

Plants like rosemary, sage, and marigold can repel ticks from your yard. So plant them in a way that covers the whole area.

These herbs will release an odor that thicks do not like. They will leave the area soon if the scent remains there for a long time. Yes, it is slow but it works.

8. Spray Garlic Pest
