Here is how to get rid of Aphids in your garden and save it from getting destroyed completely. Yes, those tiny, soft-bodied insects that feed on plants cause various kinds of damage to leaves, stems, and flowers.

Most importantly, they reproduce rapidly, and that can be very daunting for a plant lover like me who has a small garden in the backyard.

But not anymore. I am going to kill them all and make sure they come to make any infestation in the garden and destroy my precious plants that cost good money to buy and grow.

Okay! Our first job is to identify properly how those aphides are eating my plants.

Yes, you know the damages but to inspect it further you need to follow the professional gardner steps. Here are those.

  • Look for any distorted or curled leaves in various plants. One or two should not bother you.
  • But if you see too many of them then know it is time to do something about it.
  • Look for ants in your garden as they feed on the Sticky Honeydew Residue that those aphids produce.
  • Look for any cluster on the stems and on the leaves.

These are the signs that you have definitely a huge infestation in the garden and if you do not take action right now then say goodbye to your plants.

Look, you have to stop their infection and reproduction by destroying their nest.

If you do not not a few of them will live and in a few weeks they will be huge numbers and you will have an infestation.

As you know we can not use any harsh chemicals as those can damage the plants and may dry them out.

So we have to stick to the natural DIY remedies that you can prepare at home. Here is the list.

  • My first idea is to introduce ladybugs to your garden. They will eat those aphids and clean your garden.
  • Yes, later on, you also have to repel those ladybugs if they are coming to your house and that should not be difficult.
  • Mix soap with water and spray on the plants.
  • They will create bubbles and will stick to the plants that will suffocate the aphids and disturb their feeding habits eventually killing them slowly.
  • You can also use neem oil for this purpose if their number is huge.
  • You can also use garlic, onion, or hot paper with the same remedies as soap and spray on the affected plants.
  • The strong scent and the taste will repel those aphids in a few days. But if you have continue it for a few weeks (twice a week).
  • And lastly, use vinegar with water and spray on them to burn them down. (Be careful as this one may damage the plants).

Now the main question is if those DIY hacks do not work and they do not die completely then what? I have a huge infestation!

Then my friend you have to use some sort of chemicals, but carefully. Here is how.

Using Chemicals to Kill Aphids

You can buy any pesticides that are available online to kill those aphids as they disrupt the digestive system and kill them slowly.

Just buy it and spray on the infested leaves and they will die in a few hours.

But first, read the instructions for that specific product before you use them. So that you do not hurt your plants.

Yes, these chemicals will not kill those plants but if you use them in large quantities then it may get them dry. So be careful with it and spray as needed.

As you know prevention is always better than using any sort of spray. Here are some of the best ideas that you can use.

  • Invite a few ladybugs or lacewings in your garden and they will eat those aphids out. To do so, plant Marigold or Dill in your garden.
  • Practice good garden hygiene and do not let it get cluttered. Clean it once a week and remove all the moist areas.
  • Use nets for your most precious plants to save them from any infestation.

If you follow these then you will have less chance of getting infested by those aphids. So let’s get back to work.
